THE
FIFE FESTIVE RUN :: 29:12:02
In October 2002
the Falkirk contingent (Linda
M & Willie M) decided to organise
a MINI run around Fife, over
the Christmas period. We had
previously been on Monsta Mo
Mini's Ballachulish run and
had such a great day out we
thought we'd have a go at putting
a run together ourselves. So
after a few days pouring over
road maps, Microsoft Autoroute
and finally bending the roofrack
on a Suzuki Jimny (don't ask)
we were ready to go. The day
itself arrived and 22 MINI's
from around Scotland (23 if
you include Wul, who just came
along for a look and to pick
up a CD changer from a very
dodgy looking gentleman) met
up for the festive jaunt around
Fife. Many of the MINI's, along
with some of their human occupants,
'dressed up' for the day with
some sort of festive decoration
to add to the holiday feel.
Something had been mentioned
about a possible prize for best-dressed
car.
The convoy set out from Inverkeithing
and travelled along the coast
to Kirkcaldy where there was
a pit stop on the esplanade.
From here we continued up along
the coast to Anstruther, passing
through many lovely villages
and towns. Every step of the
way we were greeted by smiling,
waving pedestrians and fellow
road users. Some folks looked
truly gobsmacked as they were
confronted by MINI after MINI
after MINI.... The MINI's responded
in turn by sounding their horns
and flashing their lights enthusiastically.
After a quick regroup in Anstruther
we headed up through St. Andrews
and then cut back inland, following
a more central route through
Cupar, Auchtermuchty and right
out to Dollar. From here we
headed to Powmill and finished
the day with a group lunch at
The Gartwhinzean Hotel.
A good day was had by all, the
weather was kind to us and we
met many old friends and new.
Trixie01 picked up the prize
for 'best-dressed' MINI but
we don't think her selection
box made it as far as the car
park.
A couple of
weeks after the run Linda sent
of a couple of pictures to Mini
World Magazine and they were
kind enough to print one in
their March 2003 issue.
Keep an eye
out for the next Festive Run,
driving through a town near
you, this Christmas.
